Add The Bowes Museum to your Itinerary

The Bowes Museum, in the picturesque market town of Barnard Castle, offers a fascinating experience.

Inside the grand French-style chateau, you enter another world with over 17 galleries to enjoy. The extensive collections of European fine and decorative arts cover a broad range of styles and periods. Many of the objects were bought by museum founders John and Josephine Bowes over 100 years ago, including the magical Silver Swan.

Alongside the collections you can see some of the country's leading exhibitions, often bringing works of international significance to the North East.

Stay awhile and enjoy the acclaimed Cafe Bowes serving up delicious meals using ingredients from local producers to offer a real taste of Teesdale.

With the Gift Shop, Park and Gardens to end your visit you can be sure of a memorable day out for all.
